Re: Winter Workshop

Good man...

Whats going on with the crown of the piston ?, the wear on the bore looked like the thrust side in one image but in another it's transverse... mibe not.. it's the orientation of the pics looking again..

Re: Winter Workshop

Oily gunge. But he caught it very early. So didnt have time to burn much. Piston looks perfect tho.

I should have checked compression first but I expected to see obvious damage. Rather than light marking.

Like a ring or so gone and dragged up and down the piston/barrel

Re: Winter Workshop

Is it two compression and one scraper ring....... it is..... just had a swaatch... easily done sticking a ring on upside down, I done it on a rebore on my X7 when I fried it on the A82 ..ran it dry of 2 stroke [emoji852]..

Re: Winter Workshop

I donno. So I'm gonna redo both cylinders just to be sure. Do not want hassle mid season.

Must drop the oil and cut filter check for bearing. Really dont want to take engine out of frame and split again

Some fresh fluid, spark plugs and a little clean up. Took the fairings off to do it 18 months ago, and never did anymore. Fully stocked up on beer and dragged it out to get it sorted to get it on the road this summer. It's been neglected since the s1000 came along

Ye, I thought about that yesterday. It's up on the ramp just now, as I was fitting a oil pressure test gauge, as the one on the dash was reading low, so I was paranoid the bottom end was on its way out. Test gauge has put my mind at ease and plenty pressure there. If the weather's decent this affa I'll pull it out for a couple of photos

Re: Winter Workshop

Thought I'd move onto this thread since it was me that started it after all.

Trying hard not to get too involved with this supposed track hack .. the more I look, the more I see, the more I spend !..

So

1. Adjustable pegs ordered from Omnia Racing in Italy..not full rear sets..
2. Final Drive kit. That Talon rear sprocket is very pretty !
3. Set of front and rear SKF bearings
4. New front Rim (bargain off EB)
5. Second hand rear Rim.
6. Service kit... plugs, oil etc...
7. D.I.D Chain tool.. opted for after consultation with Rob and Ryan.
8. Set of smoked indicators for front.
9. New rear hugger.

Still to buy.

Pair of decent tyres
Front discs and pads
Small repairs on and paint front fender and nose cone
Penske ride height adjuster has been butchered...annoys me when I look at it (very expensive shock that probably, ?1300 new).

Kawa paint and body work is shite, swingarm paint is crap and all chipped to ****, chain run, swing arm mounts, output shaft and associated areas absolutely caked in 1/2 an inch of chain grease arghhhh.... that parts washer is invaluable...

Re: Winter Workshop

coming along nicely...... when are u planning ur first track day on it?? are u working to a schedule or is this just a work in progress no deadline project....??

Re: Winter Workshop

DID chain tool? A Whale would do it? Any advantages?

Re: Winter Workshop

The way I'm spending money there might be nothing left for even one trackday lol... no deadline, I'll get my OCD out the way 1st then see where I'm at... I'm going to keep it street legal so's if it doesn't work out I'll have the option to punt.

I'll MOT next month and get her out on the road for a few blasts then get booking some track time...transport is the next problem !

DID tool arrived today....looks really well made and very heavy... you can only use on DID and Saito chains...

Whale you can use on anything...

Just took a punt... DID chains are quality...

Re: Winter Workshop

Cool. There is a solid and a hollow pin attachment available on the Whale tool so it can do them all if required.

Just tried having a look at a Silverstone trackday -?250! No Limits /MSV dont offer them anymore, looks like you book direct with the circuit - decent wedge!
