I promised my boy he could drive to his college open day tomorrow, he's been hopping around in excitement for weeks now. Thank god I checked the forms, the flippin insurer had removed him from the policy despite me putting him in the application. Called em up: "Sorry Sir, we don't insure under 21's" B*stards.
Turns out loads of insurers don't do under 21's.
Do any of you lot know anyone who does?
Might have to get him a separate insurance policy (ie. two policies on 1 car?).
F*ck. Gotta sort it today.

You could give Adrian flux a go for a policy. When I was a teen used to use then and they were ok.

The boy had a great time yesterday. His first long trip saw him clock up best part of 200 miles in Sussex and the Peak District (I did the motorways!).

Glad you got sorted, Adrian flux insured my E Reg white XR2 when I was 17.
Your son will remember yesterday for the rest of his life & it?s great you had the chance to share it with him.
Memories banked.

Thanks Rosso. Your XR2 reminds me of my car plan in the 80's.
XR2, XR3i, Capri 2.8, Toyota Supra, Sierra Cosworth.
I had it all planned. WTF happened? I drive a Skoda now :-(

my son had a remapped vrs octavia it was rapid for a old mans car :excitement:

Nothing wrong with skodas! I've got a 4x4 superb estate (owned it for about 5 or 6 years now) and its never put a foot wrong, still goes well and is monster comfortable even with 5 people in. My daughter drives around in a mk2 Fabia vrs (1.4 petrol supercharged/turbocharged pocket rocket - 180 bhp) which she managed to insure for ?400 _less_ than her crappy Citroen c2! Skoda is black-box free, but on the C2 it was a mandatory requirement. Insurance is an odd game innit..

Thanks for the encouragement Guys. My Skoda quip was actually just a wanky middle-class humblebrag prior to me boasting about my awesome Skoda Superb Estate, 280 ps 4x4.
Talk about Q car. Goes like sh*t and am looking forward to getting it re-mapped when the warranty runs out, so it can give the RS4/6's a run for their money too. Go Skoda, whoop.

I drove an Octavia vrs245 while I was in the Czech Republic recently, wasn't as quick as it sounds, although that could have been due the heavy load on board...but a very nice car nonetheless

I heard. Odd one that. It has the same engine as the SEAT Leon Cupra and the 280ps Superb, but they've removed a load of power for some reason. Also, did you fnd it a bit laggy? I thought it was turbo lag in my Superb but apparently it's the mapping to keep noise and emissions down.
I'm told that re-mapping improves fuel efficiency and gets power up to 350ps without stressing the rest of the car.
Now imagine if you could do that to the lighter Octavia. That would be worth driving although I suppose you then start to get very spenny on brakes and suspension, assuming the chassis can take it.

There was 4 of us in it hence the comment on weight but even under full bore acceleration the view was that it wasn't anything special and yes there was a certain lack of responsiveness which could be lag. TBH if the guy at the airport rental desk hadn't made such a fuss over telling me how quick the 245 was I'd have assumed it was a typical 2 litre turbo engine. Comfortable and well equipped though.

Haha, had everything on my list too except the Supra. My friend has two Sierra Cosworths & an Escort Cosworth that he uses for a few days over summer.
He sold an RS turbo a few days ago which he doubled his money on.
I appreciate this is all off topic, but I went through the 1990 big bumper Golf GTI 16V phase ( had a couple).
Rose tinted specs maybe, but I loved that era of motoring .
Been lucky enough to have some quick cars since, but not emotive about them anymore.

Which Supra? And how the heck did you fit?

Nice one glad the trip work out as planned. I had a 1990 1.3 NA Polo GT coupe when I was insured by them. Loved that car and regret selling it as they are like hens teeth now.

I actually ordered a Octavia vRS estate back in June but the factory cancelled the order because of the new emissions changes. You still can't order a new one yet so the dealerships must be feeling the hit as it's pretty much all the brand's.

Ended up with a Golf R estate, got a ex demo one as you cant get those until next year either and have to say I'm loving it so far. Economy is actually not that bad and hit the loud peddle and it flies.

Thanks 3J. Interesting and congrats on the R. Have you looked into getting it re-mapped?

Had the hatchback for just over 3 years. Very quick cars all year round with effortless performance.
Only gripe is a little turbo lag & way too much electronic intervention.
Sound like a lambo on the inside because of the artificial noise through speakers when flooring, but a Prius on the outside.
That said, the sense of pop bang fart makes you feel like a hero.

On the whole mega.

I?ve been knocking around in a M140i Shadow Edition for a month now (straight 6 auto) & on balance think it is a more rewarding, interactive car.
Constantly fighting the back end ( good fun).
My feedback may be somewhat different in the ice & snow.
I appreciate it doesn?t come in estate spec.

In terms of speed & refinement, it?s amazing how far these modern rockets have come, sub 5 sec acceleration with decent midrange & handling along with relative affordability.

If I didn?t have school runs etc I would sacrifice all this for a 90?s car .

Saw a mint Lancia Delta Integrale Evo 2 in Rosso Monza Red the other day & literally creamed myself. Just wow.
I?m confident the price tag will be too.

I have looked into getting it mapped and also a remus exhaust but sadly can't do anything until it's out of warranty. For the moment it's plenty quick to keep me interested and all that while still being able to get my MTB in the back. Happy days.

The M140i would almost certainly be on my drive right now if I didn't need the space. Even if I put my MTB on the roof of soon be running out of space with all my stuff. Pitty because they are moving the 1 series to the mini platform and that will probably kill them for fun factor. I had also heard no more 6 cylinder :(
