I had an '03 R1 from new, wish I'd never sold it, one if the best bikes I've owned, I could have saved thousands over the years. I know what you mean about the S1K at low revs, you just have to compensate.
The r1 is still a proper good bike. Its got real smooth torque straight off tickover. Such a fun bike on the road. Im hoping a remap of the s1000rr with help

I dont know much about mapping but i presumed you could tell the throttles to do whatever you want at any given throttle percentage?
Reason i thought this the aprilia rsv4 seems to give 50% throttle straight away.
That bike is way too agressive of 0%.
 
Maybe with an ECU unlock and RCK remap applied.

BMW worked hard on air velocity and smooth drive.

Nothing is 'wrong' its just a different engine.
