Hi everyone
Took out the s1000rr on Friday an will be going in to the BMW dealership in Suffolk today to sign the papers. What a fantastic bike! I am really looking forward to riding and upgrading some bits. Wanted a blue and white but dealership made such a good offer on a black one I could not refuse. Look forward to any guides to upgrades but the exhaust is the first thing and the CAT cover .

Thanks in Advance Chris

Enjoy it pal! They are great bikes which reg are you getting? A 68?

Hi Chris i traded my blade this year and wanted motorsport but worked out ???? more as well as i got a black one too and they look so nice in the flesh .

Can i say an Evotech radiator and oil cover !st

Also when you go down the tailtidy route have a look at SP engineering one as it uses the original rear light so no wires to cut ...

ohh and ENJOY

Welcome to the forum Chris and congratulations on your new RR!

Great choice going for the black colour scheme, very clean indeed [emoji41]

+1 on Evotech radiator guards, I would also recommend GB Racing engine case covers and Gilles axel sliders. You might also wish to consider some carbon frame covers from the likes of Ilmberger or Alpha Racing as they not only protect the frame from abrasion but also shield some heat from the rider.

What sort of riding do you enjoy primarily and what is your riding history?

Enjoy the forum, there is a wonderful community on here and loads of information.
I hope you have many happy miles ahead of you [emoji4]

Hi Thanks everyone . I am a mature rider in age terms and got out with friends Saturday and Sundays . I ride with Rospa of which I am member. I have already purchased Akrapovic megaphone exhaust rad guards and BMW engine protection. I have a question regarding suspension setup for lighter riders like myself . 10 stone 64 kilos . I believe I can modify in user settings to reduce rebound etc to compensate . Is this a normal thing or do people just leave it ? Thanks Chris

What advanced group are you a member of? I?m currently doing RoSPA training with the Essex Advanced Motorcyclists Group.

Re suspension, due to your weight I would strongly recommend going to a suspension specialist such as MCT suspension to change spring rate etc. The OEM springs are aimed at a ~ 85 Kg rider.
Hydraulically, there are two categories of adjustment that can be made on DDC equipped RR?s. The first is the riding mode (Rain, Sport, Race, Slick) which alters the damping response, for road use you?ll probably find Sport to be the most compliant setup. There is a User mode, which is essentially pick-n-mix, so you can pick each of the characteristics (wheelie control, throttle response, ABS etc.) of the default modes to create ?your? ideal setup.
The second way to alter the damping is via the ?DDC setup? menu in settings. This allows you to adjust the compression/rebound and the combined damping ?DMP? response for the shock and forks respectively independent of the riding mode.
It?s well worth having a play with the various riding modes and DDC settings as it transforms the way the bike feels in all respects

I am member of the group based in Needham market . They are a great group although not so many sports bike riders. I have used MCT on my 14 blade and that made a big difference to the bike. It made the new blade feel so hard when I tried it out recently. I will probably live with it for a while as MCT did tell me I would probably need softer springs front and back on S1000rr so maybe early next year I can see. My only regret now is my made to measure Repsol leathers that I will need to sell.

get the leathers on cbr1000rr forum they are a good bunch of lads

I found that if i add any decals with the word "racing" in it makes the bike faster.

Hi Chris.
Like you I too am of mature years and also weighed 64kgs, when I last checked.
When I purchased my S 1000 RR
I couldn't live with it at all. The suspension was so hard I had difficulty focusing through my glasses, and that's the truth. I complained to the dealer who put my complaint to BMW. To my surprise BMW suggested I take it to a suspension specialist of my choice and they would help me pay for it.
I purchased my own springs from Alpha Racing, hired a van and took it to MCT, where Darren worked his magic.
In my case BMW paid for the complete suspension work but not the hire of the van and fuel used in it.
After 12 months of really struggling with the bike I, at last got the bike I thought I was getting when I first purchased it. And as a bonus I can now see where I'm going.
My advice to anyone who is of our weight, is to get it done, sooner rather than later!
Hope this helps😊
