Hi,

I recently lost my Ducati 899 in an accident and Im searching for a replacement.

-Cheers

Hola, Hope you are ok after your accident, whats you name my friend and what bike are you looking at replacing it with?

Welcome from Scotland

Hi,

My name is Fabricio and Im looking to replace the 899 with an s1000rr.

Im researching and trying to figure out if its the bike for me.

So far I’m mostly sold but I have a few things that Im not sure of. Im first waiting for the new model and see if bmw announce pricing. I imagine since its something totally new they will raise the price which to me its already quite high. I also read about some veering problems in the s1000rr US forums. Wanted to find out if its the same in the UK.

While I do like visually the Ducati this time around I want something less troublesome and more reliable.

Yes, Fabricio Ducatis are indeed very beautiful but reliability is very important too.

Not heard of many problems with the BMW in all the years it has been available, not too long to wait to see the 2019 model.

Hi Fabricio, one or two members mentioned concerns over the gen3 veering slightly to the right when it was first launched and indeed it does slightly if you ride around with your hands off the bars(!) but in reality it is a complete non issue.

Do you guys happen to know if the bike requires specific set of tyres for the traction control to work correctly?

In my 899 it was “suggested” in the manual to run Rosso Corsa otherwise the DTC system would not work right or give error warnings.

While I do like those tyres I also wouldn’t like to be tied to them.

Never heard that before, I know of lots of riders who change to different brands of tyres on the S1000RR and have never had any issues. I think it is best to stick to 200 series if on HP wheels though.

The traction control is based on the circumference of the tyres. Having said that...

The S1000RR with forged rims comes from the factory with Super Corsa's or Metzeler RR Racetec K3's.

With cast rims they tend to have S21's, M7RR's or Diablo Rosso 3's.

All of these tyres are good...what will matter to you is how they feel on turn in. They come in 2 main flavours progressive U shaped or aggressive V shaped.

Welcome to the forum Fabricio.

As MacRR says, the slight propensity to veer right is only noticeable when sat on cruise control with both hands off the bars. Such things are so easily affected by uneven tyre wear etc. and it is so minor it is a non-issue in my opinion.

As Jimmy says, you?ll find that the vast majority of people are thrilled with their RR?s. On a new bike, or one purchased with the BMW approved-used warranty, any issues are also typically honoured with a dependable warranty and good service. So you have nothing to fear in this regard in my opinion.

+1 on Alex?s TC and tyre comments!

I?m sure it won?t take long before you decide that an RR needs to be in your future [emoji6]

Problem is I already have. I'm trying to reason my way out of it. 😁

I owned an 899 before my 1299. The limiting factor was the 180 rear. Less choices than the 200 on my 1299 & HP rimmed RR.

Tbf , I didn?t mind the Rosso Corsa?s & used them year round, however found they lost their profile quicker than say Metzeler RR?s ( my favourite all round tyre).

I rode both my base 1299 & RR back to back today & while the panigale has more low down torque & kerb appeal, IMO , my 16 RR is a better bike.
Fuelling, comfort ( although slightly more legroom on 1299) , & suspension are leagues ahead.

Point to point I?m much quicker on our crappy roads on the RR.

The panigale is undoubtedly sexier & noisier (however constantly complains of having a headache), whilst the RR is a high class escort offering all services day in and day out.
