While most of you wouldn't dream of carrying a pillion Mrs Mac is a die hard sportsbike fan and much prefers going on the back of a Sthou/Gixxer etc rather than a tourer... However, even she couldn't stand more than 50 miles on the standard GSXR1000 perch, so after a bit of research (cheers Bertie) I bought a spare seat and sent it up to Les at Saddlecraft in South Shields with the brief to 'make it more comfortable'. A couple of weeks and a bit of cash later, he added more foam, a gel insert, non slip fabric and matching blue side panels - top man. The result, 120 miles worth of bum friendly range achieved and tastefully (I think) integrated into the look of the bike:

Great write up Mac and a great result, the seat practically looks OEM [emoji41]

Will be keeping note of Saddlecraft seats as I can see myself going down the seat mod route in future

I contacted saddlecraft last week about a reupholstered seat for my k75 and their reply was that they are too busy. Silly really because I want it doing in the winter when, no doubt, they wont be too busy.

Sales 101 - never tell your customers you are too busy to deal with them.

The lock in the seat/cowl is a real pita on the RR. Not only do you end up buying extra locks to have both options, you also can't have a nice uniform rear seat like this if you want one.

I hope BMW correct this with the '19.

Looking good Mac.

Do you know how Lucky you are Mac? Mrs Phil used to love being pillion on my SP1 back in 2000/2001 but nowadays I have to have a **cking TopBox fitted to my KTM whenever she comes out with me and I hate TopBox's....

That seat looks great btw.

Cheers Phil, yeah you're right I can't grumble. How are you getting on with the KTM, assume you need the topbox to stop the Mrs flying off the back when the front wheel's off the ground?!

My Mrs loves coming out for a run on the bike. She doesn't mind the s1k occasionally, but finds the seat very high to climb on and off, so mainly use the old Guzzi T3 when she wants to go out. She hates the SP1, and think she's only been out on that twice, and now refuses to sit on it!!!

Yep, the Topbox is there is keep her on the bike so that she doesn't have to hold on... In sport (mid) mode it wheelies so very easily 2 up, I sometimes use rain mode 2 up as the power delivery is smoother although I cant get on the throttle early while lent right over (in rain) as it just bogs down and the tc light comes on. Still a great bike, Im trying to work out/understand the suspension (in my head) having to ride around it, it is nonadjustable..

Got ya, Mac is very lucky, dont think many other halves like the sportsbikes (unfortunately).
I like that 'She Hates the SP1 and now refuses to sit on it'!!! Mrs Phil rode pillion to the Nurburgring in 2001 and she wore the backpack with all our gear in! Crazy eh?

That's a long ride 1 up on an Sp! I went from Aberdeen to Ullapool with only 1 very brief fuel stop a few years ago, on my own, and decided it would only ever leave the island again in the back of a van. I love the SP, but the seat would be more comfortable if Honda had made it out of a plank of wood!

Hey Phil. I didn't know about the SP1/2 so I've been looking it up. Thought you might like this quote from Visordown:
"...It won WSB first time out with Colin Edwards, but on the road this thing had more snatch than a porn library and was almost as hairy if you gave it a handful..."
Lol.

Totally, for those that dont know, the Honda SP1 was built to beat the Ducati's in WSB as all the Jap bikes were 4 cylinder 750cc (Duc 1000cc).

The SP1 was indeed very Snatchy (Porn Library lol) so much so that I had to change my riding style to suit the Bike, after 3k miles I had it nailed. It has saved me loads in front tyres. Oh and coincidentally I had a Porn Star sticker on each side of my SP1 , weird eh?
