I tried my NN cable in a few sockets: I remember one didn't fit (it was a mirror image), one didn't work in the right shaped socket but the last one worked. I didn't have to do anything else with splicing, earthing, etc.
On the suject of sat nav, I did a tour of Wales a few years ago and it broke on day 1 (before I even got there), so each night I planned the next day's route on google maps and wrote out very simple tank pad instructions for the next days journey. This worked really well and I now never use sat nav for a leisure trip. I'm better at finding the twisties and avoiding the traffic, plus I never get lost like sometimes happens when a sat nav f*cks up and you're not paying attention.
