Rusty Sump cover & faulty switches

Had the indicator switch replaced earlier in the year, as you could only turn them off using the hazard switch. Just had the ignition switch replaced as it failed to start. BMW assistance (3rd party) couldn't get it going & got recovered home. Next day called the AA and they managed to get it...

    Winter Tyres

Have PR3s on at the moment, but will try the PR4s when they existing ones needs replacing. Had one set of PR3s last 12k miles.

    Crash bungs

I have a set of Gilles crash bungs on my 2011 and they have some absorption built in in the actual bungs. I also have a new set for the 2012 model (off set brackets for the revised fairings), which I bought but decided to stick with my 2011 model. Can sell you these if you have a 2012 on model.

Potential new owner - coming from a Panigale

30k on 2011 machine from new. No breakdowns apart from self-inflicted battery issue. Used everyday in all weathers. Warranty paid for new exhaust, rear damper, 1 sump plug, 1 indicator switch. What delights awaits for the next 6k miles?

    Brake Pads

I favour Carbone Lorraine XBK5. Current set and brought another set for when they need changing. If money was no object I would buy OEM brembos pads though. Had SBS x2 and they weren't nice to my discs. This is for general road riding.

    18k service

Think I paid £520 for mine, service only. Also had the chain and both sprockets changed as an extra. At the time, just before the warranty ran out, had new sump and rear damper replaced. http://s1000rrforum.co.uk/showthread.php?2065-3-Year-18k-miles-service

    Venture Shield & Covertech

No discolouration. Very tiny lift on the edges but would say that was more of a self-fit issue. Cheers

    Security??

I believe we are talking about a chain that is left on a secured post. The scumbag 'ruins' the lock and when the rider comes to lock his bike he can't. So if he then still leaves his bike at the same place unlocked.........

Front left caliper seized mid flight

My brakes are be fine (26k miles) and I change brake pads every 6k....lots of stop and starts. I always give the callipers a really good clean every time the pads are changed. I missed the part that they should be every 3k. I probably don't make them clean as well as a dealer could??? but not...

    Repairing Sidi boots ?

I've had my same Sidi B2 Goretex resoled twice now. The soles look like army boots treads. I do walk a lot in these boots and last 2.5 years. No idea where you are....but any competent shoe repairer should be able to put on new soles inc heels. I had my done by a shop in Ealing (nr. the...

    wheel bearings..

RH, can you advise where to buy and ref/ part nrs for front and rear bearings I reckon the rough inner London roads and pot holes have been giving my wheel bearings a rough time. Had them replace under warranty last year but don't think they are covered under extended warranty.

    New battery

I can't remember the technical ref. but the 2011 RR has 10 cell battery without the bmw alarm fitted and supplied with 12 cell if fitted with the alarm Having fitted an alarm, winter gloves connection and needs starting everyday and in cold weathers I upgraded to 14 cell or the YTZ 14S...

    Venture Shield & Covertech

That's a good price. I have this kit but I fitted it by my self. My dealer could arrange it for £350 ish supplied and fitted a few years ago.

    Security??

My experience on this..... scum don't like noise........they prised off the alarm cover on my 10mm xena disc lock alarm first (didn't have the module fitted as it was giving out false alarms) - no chain fitted. The tactics they used, the whole disc lock came off with 60sec viewed from the CCTV...

Rusty Sump cover & faulty switches

Only had one sump replacement at 19k miles, currently on 25k. Not one switch has replaced yet (fingers crossed), what are the failing symptoms if any, of a faulty switch or do they just, all of a sudden don't work? Thought I had this as the whole dash wouldn't light up with the ignition...

Heated grips - Symtec or Oxford

I'm slowly acquiring parts to do this, retro fit S1000rr heated grips with some mods. But it will be probably easier & cheaper with oxford grips or R&G grips as I've seen these fitted to our bikes before. Heated gloves are better (warmth) than the grips but with all the hassle of the wiring &...

Radiator and oil cooler guards for HP4 carbon

Cox Racing radiator & oil guards (supplied from US at the time) fitted to the bike before it was delivered. Its a lot cheaper than having a new rad fitted.

    Average age of riders here

41, riding since 08. Only took the DAS test as I knew it was changing its format and had a couple of older bikers nagging at me to give it a go. So much better getting to work on the bike, than going by train.

    Puncture

I would have it repaired if your tyre fitter thinks its ok and as you say its in the centre. I have a running joke with my tyre fitter as I went through a period where I had a new rear tyre fitted and then come back for a puncture repair within 2 weeks. This has happened to me 4 times on each...
