Mine has K&N for about 40,000 miles, no problems , power is good 199bhp with full akra and PCv. cleaned and oiled once or twice. Original plugs NGK are good for 18,000 miles, same as the shim check, so I get dealer to change them whilst doing the check and fresh coolant. It's gen 1.

thinking of fitting these (yamaha?) ones to my gen 1, could you show me the "hole" on the controller side please? I think I might need to cut it around to fit over the grip / switch mount on the LH side. TIA

yep, doubt you would notice unless the old one was very dirty! having said that just swapped the filter in my mx5 for a K&N and it seems the throttle response is crisper, the old one wasn't horribly dirty or a genuine mazda one, but seems to be a noticeable improvement. (still way less power...

Mine (gen1) had a k and n in it when I got it in 2014, still there after the 36,000 miles I've done on it, cleaned it once (or possibly twice), no problems at all, it's got a full akra, and pc5 mapped , 199bhp at the back wheel - think that's a good enough recommendation.

i've been running 200s on my gen1, (had a couple of 190s too), can't say it's made much difference, but as they say size matters!

the one i have (I think alpha) is just the throttle tube and fits using the original cables, getting the original housing apart requires an odd size small torx and reassembly needs a bit of thought to make sure its all in the correct hole ( iI managed to bend a bolt and get it wrong first...
