Possible that your local (non BMW?) garage fault reader doesn't recoginise the code.
I had the techspec snakeskin, compared to stompgrips not quite as grippy but didn't rub up leathers.
I have stompgrips on my Gen2 that came with the bike, very grippy but consequently rub up the leathers quite a bit.
I used techspech before on GSXR600, these are good and don't damage leathers. ...
