Only way I solved it on the gen3 was to fit an STM slipper clutch which was great ... They can't even...

Take em out, (easier to clean plus easier to get to other areas) wd40 followed by a polish of some sort. Clean, lube the chain before removal.

Thinners/brake cleaner is fine as long as you just wipe it, not soak it,,, Done it for years.
