Changing to a 16T front seems to be the starting move.

I am running 16/44 standard is 17/45, I also have a 46 rear but it's too short with a 16 front, maybe 17/46 if you don't want too much change.
I did a 520 conversion and ordered a 16 front and 44 & 46 rear.
I left the chain as it came, 120 links.
