Hello,

I'm no track god, but I do know my 2010 bike feels reluctant to change direction and does run wide on the power coming out of turns. So without wanting to spend a fortune on bespoke chassis parts, I've decided to fit the 2012 yokes and swing arm pivots to see if it will replicate the better handling on mine.

I've already got the upper and lower yokes and have just ordered the 12 pivot bushes from the main dealer. From what I can tell they move the pivot up from a 1mm lift to a 4 mm lift. Kyle racing do the same at a fair whack more.

As soon as I've swapped them over, I'll post up what differences I can notice, I'll check the shock lengths too and adjust mine to the same as the 2012, I've got the maxton GP10 on it.

Has anyone had the yokes or pivots out before? Just wondering if there's any specialist tools needed. I can see a castellated nut, but I have a tool from a previous bike that fits that one.

Also is there anywhere to download a workshop manu...... (PM?)

Cheers chaps.

I'm sure a more knowledgeable chap will be along shortly to confirm, but I believe the swing arm pivots (specifically the hole in the frame where the pivot sits) is a totally different shape between the 2010 and 2012 and therefore are not interchangeable.

It's why the machined adjusters fir the 2010 are more expensive.

Dave you are right they moved the swing arm back slightly so the pivot shims are different on the 12.

HKP before you swap too much around did you know you can turn the excentric washer on the top shock mounting bolt up the other way which will give and instant 5mm lift on the back end and will sharpen up the steering. I tried it and there is a difference how ever it is a bit more slap happy on bumpy roads and is a mod best left for the track.

Hi,

It's purely a track bike now. I did know about the eccentric spacer and have tried it the other way up, like you said its very head Shakey after that. The difference I'm looking for really is the drive ability out of a turn from the swing arm pivot bushes.

I spoke to my local BMW dealer who went with a chief technician and measured up a 2010 and 2012 bike next to each other with verniers and said they "looked" identical. With the caviat that if they didn't fit. Tough!

Anyway, they weren't too expensive, it worked out at the same cost as shipping and import duty on the kyle ones. I'm in the states in 6 weeks, so if it all goes pear shaped, I'm no more out of pocket. If they fit, then happy days.

Actually Dave, I've just been looking on the Kyle website and eBay, and the 2010 look more diamond shaped compared to a more oval shape for the 2012. I'm not sure why the dealers would say they looked the same? Hmmm, better give them a ring back tomorrow and get them to check again.

Thanks for the advice!

I know! It sticks out like a blind cobbler thumb now I know what to look for.

They can't have even looked at one, ah well I'll call them back and cancel. Will wait for my trip to the US now!

Thanks

Will be interested in the difference the kyle racing ones make if thats what you go for.

I will be going for them. I canceled my order this morn with the local dealer. It turns out that they didn't actually have the two to compare.... Anyway, they very kindly got the chief Tech to call me who asked BMW Technical if the yokes would fit. The straight answer was we think so, but we'd really be interested to know :) They couldn't see a reason why not.

So I'll pick a set up when I'm over in the US in a month or so.

What I might do is swap over the yokes first to see what that does, then fit the rear pivot bushes after ive ridden it again. As I understand it although I'm sure they will affect the overall feeling, they are doing different jobs.

Not that it will save a huge amount, but if you want a set bringing back, just let me know.
