had my bike 2 years and the warranty is up
they want £312 for the year for it
who else had opted for it and how much have ya payed?
I also asked what you got for it , I was wrongly under the impression that servicing was free ( which it int)
I fucking hate the piece of mind shite they dribble out on the phone too ::) damn it , I kinda already know im gonna buy the fecking thing :-[

They also quoted me £550 for an 18k service , where apparently the fucking bike is suberged in goats milk for a day and then treated to a sea weed wrap followed by a photo shoot with a celebrities bike.........cnuting cnuts!!

I didn't, as heard it's not as comprehensive as the original warranty..?

They replaced my switchgear out of warranty as goodwill though.....guess it depends on what may fail after the two years is up. If for example the engine failed from a known issue, then warranty or not I would expect them to sort it out.

That's what I paid but travelled further than my ususal dealer who wanted more plus hadn't done the 18k service on an S yet.

Currently Williams an Southport are offering to do the 18k service for less than £300 for a limited time.

Did you take the extended warranty in the end?

Hi Bob,

I got a 1 year Fully Comp RAC Warranty, supplied from Robinsons of Rochadale to start when the manufacturer warranty ended. I think it's priced at about £150 and you can take your bike to an BMW dealership for the work to be done (if needed).

Is there an excess in the small print?

Warranty standard or extended must NOT be compromissed by having your bike serviced at a non BMW Dealership. I believe that just because we ride BM's they take the piss and charge crazy rates. Basic service to change oil and filter comes out at the wrong side of £200 ! My next service will NOT be carried out by Lind Motorrad of Norwich but an independant , so long as he has the necessary kit BM have to honour the warranty ( one of the few good things to come out of European legislation)
On the subject of extended warranty Question if your bike was a Honda/Yamaha/Suzuki/Kawasaki would you consider paying for extended warranty????
It's just that there are many posts on here stating failure of electrics, engines, rusty sumps etc or am I being over critical?

You can tell from the above I've had a BAD DAY at the OFFICE!! :(

Just checked. £0.00 excess and a maximum repair value of £1000.00.
Thats not bad, wonder how much a new gear box would cost (fitted)? under £1k I hope.

With my 2 year warranty nearing it's end, I called BMW today (08712003278) to get a quote. The options were:
1. £365 with £0 excess
2. £336 with £50 excess
1. £312 with £100 excess
My bike has just done over 3k miles now, but they didn't want to take this into consideration though.

Hence, given the half-decent reliability of the bike and the fairly low miles on my bike, I'll not be taking this up, but thought I'd share the info.

Ive just had a 2,000 mile service done at SBW and they charged me around £180 - bike had only covered 152 miles since its last service but wanted to keep things on schedule as my "extended" approved used warranty doesnt run out until end of May. I havent been quoted for a further year extension as yet but will certainly be seriously considering taking one out again just for the peace of mind. I also appreciate that servicing doesnt have to be carried out at a BMW dealer but ive always felt that when it comes time to sell the bike on that if i sell it privately rather than trade it in, then the new owner would look more favourably upon a a full list of main dealer stamps. Im not saying i agree with that philosophy in its entirety but i know ive always had a slight issue when i buy a high end bike or car and the service book goes from main dealer stamps to some noddy backstreet "specialist" garage. That said, when i had my E46 M3 CSL i always used to have the main dealer do service and stamp book for the warranty and then drive her straight round to an independent CSL "specialist" that genuinely knew the cars inside out and would invariably find fault or short comings with what the BMW technicians had just done!!! I believe ive just contradicted myself there but hey ho!!! Bloody expensive hobby this bike lark, huh!!??

Ill be taking the extended warranty. As everyone one knows, my engine and gear box blew up at 3,000 miles. Bike was a year old and luckly it's covered. Total cost of the investigation work inc fitting the new engine is around the 10k mark.

I certainly won't want to swallow this bill when it happens again (i have no doubt in my mind that it will)so ill definitely be taking the extended warranty.

Bloody hell, im new so didnt know this - and thats just made my mind up about the warranty!!

Ive always wondered though - if your bikes engine or gearbox blew up on track and you packed it up and delivered it to BMW's doorstep and said "my bikes buggered, please fix it under warranty" - is there a chance they could refuse if you are totally honest and tell them its a part time track toy?? Would you need to strip the race fairing, the slick tyres etc etc, turn it back into road going guise and then drop it off at BMW?? I guess if i read the t&c's in the warranty manual it would clearly give me my answer!! But thought someone here might have had experience of this??

I owned a Nissan R35 GTR 2010 Black Edition a couple of years ago and took it to the Ring 3 or 4 times and did a couple of UK track days - i never had a major fault (unlike a lot of my mates with theirs!!) but i did have to keep changing the transmission oil EVERY after each track day and every time the technicians would warn me that if the gearbox or engine imploded and HPC knew i was regularly tracking it that there was every chance they wouldnt pay out - which infuriated me because of how the car was launched to the press at the Ring, it had all the DNA of a race/track car and yet they expected owners to drive to Waitrose and back!!

I doubt they would be able to refuse seeing as they gave BMW motorrad trackdays away with the sale of 2012 models and I am personally keeping a copy of the advert they ran for a while ( says it is the ultimate trackday bike built for that purpose) I will probably take the warranty as I have a tendency to break bikes and cars !

Just found out that the extended warranty doesn't cover corrosion
By corrosion I mean the petrol filler cap seized solid
They took it to bits and got it to work though its less secure now
It needs replacing and I will have to pay its been garaged since I got it and I noticed the shit that gathered in it
The bolts are under the cap so it's clearly a shit design
Keep yours clean fellas
