Just been through this all this drama myself, trust me you will really struggle finding it anywhere other than at the dealers, and if you do it won't be cheaper. I just bought 4 litres from the dealer today after searching every BP and online dealer for the last few weeks.

Says its developed with BMW so I'm guessing thats why its so expensive/hard to get hold of, Castrol don't even give much info about it on their website
So does anyone know the difference between 5W - 40 and 10W-40?

I think it's cheap,I've always had Castrol. You shouldn't be using loads,so treat yourself to a litre

Topped mine up with 10w 40w. The 5w seems to be only available to dealers and race teams

when it had its first service if it was ok to use 10w/40 and the answer
was no as this would effect your warranty and they have a bike in with a naff
engine who has used 10w/40 but not sure how true it was

If its in the hand book they can't say nowt. The only difference between the two grades is the viscosity below zero and that isn't much. This will only affect the start up in extreme temps which I won't be going out in for starters. There is no way you could knacker your motor on the 10w other than let it get too low which is a different matter. Its more a control thing they know you will more than likely get the servicing done at a main dealer if the oil is hard and more expensive to get hold of elsewhere. KTM were doing the same thing in 2004 until their own dealers were having trouble getting Motorex in the right grades so they ended up using all sorts.
10w 4o is fine and easy to get from halfords.

This is also what honda insists is best for the blade as well . All the race bikes and so on use 10w 40 and it says it in the manual.
