Does anybody have much knowledge about basic set up of the standard sachs suspension? Got a track day soon would like to get the preload and damping in the right ball park.

I'm defiantly not an expert but there are so many factors to setting suspension up properly that I would take it to MCT's in Stowmarket. Standards settings are a good base to start if you are going to DIY but are done for a rider weight of around 12 stone. Plus tend to be for a softer ride to allow for the rough roads we ride on. Tracks are much smoother so suspension tends to be set much stiffer but not so stiff that they dont react and make the tyre do all the work.

I think MCT charge £80 but have heard they are very good and people have said it transforms the bike after having it done.

I've been playing with mine for years trying different weight oils to change how they react but have gone back to standard weight and struggling to get them set so might even go there myself :)

The handbooks race settings aren't too bad so use that as a base point. I'm around 14 stone in my gear so I set the preload for sag with me on board at 15mm front and 20mm rear which works ok for me. For better turn in flip the washer on the top fixing of the shock.

Ahh you mean rider sag... You want 24-26mm front static sag and about 14mm rear static sag (no rider!) as starting point.

I've set a few up when instructing and in the main have to pretty much max out the rebound and add a few clicks of compression on the front for track use. Shock seems pretty good stock but a couple clicks of rebound gets a bit more control.

Best to get it setup properly as all bikes/riders are different.
