Just got back from the first track outing with the new S1KRR, will do a bit of a write up if anyone is interested but I had a few issues with the bike and wondered if anyone else had experienced the same and have you sorted it? For info my pace wasn't particularly quick, 2:15 quickest lap and consistently in the 2:16/2:17s. Pretty happy considering firat time on a big bike since June, first time on an IL4 since 2006 and first time at Aragon. Great circuit.

Quickshifter wasn't as smooth as I was expecting, seemed to really jerk a lot a 100% throttle upshifts. Chain tension is within range and cush rubbers perfect, any other way to adjust it without the calibration kit?

Vague front end, had a nasty slide at the fast left after the corkscrew chicane. Is it worth investing a bit of cash in the DDC or (as someone has already suggested to me) do I ditch it and but Ohlins/Ktech? I like the ease of adjustment of DDC but tried harder/softer and it didn't seem to make much difference.

Raer tyre wear, destroyed a rear Dunlop KR108 MS3 in about 8 sessions. Pressures were fine so I'm thinking suspension/geometry, again I tried harder/softer and nothing seemed to change. I'm pretty aggressive with the throttle but I used to get 2/3 days out of a rear on my RC8R and they're renowned for killing tyres due to the torque.

Ground clearance at full lean is a bit shit, 55 degrees and boots down all over the shop. Riding style & rearsets?

I didn't really want to spend a lot of cash on the bike this year but the tyre wear especially is going to be a big issue for me. Any help much appreciated.

Aye, took a couple to send to someone for advice after 3 sessions. Will post them up later, looked like cold tearing but changing pressures didn't help either.

Hi eddie, i ran 22r 32f when out at aragon which worked great for me and the tyres lasted 2 1/2 days. As for ground clearances , that long left is the only corner on any track ive been to that ive had issues. Not only grinding pegs but i had the sidestand grind out as well, i lost the rear and it snapped back and sent me gravel bound at over 100 miles an hr. Lets just say the next bit hurt 😂😂😂

I'll bet it did, scary corner! It was more in thew really tight stuff I was grinding my toes. Tight right at turn 6, tight right into corkscrew and tight left on to back straight.

Pressures ended up 32 fr and I tried everything from 19-25 psi in the rear and it made no difference to the wear, still tore up the shoulders of the tyre. A friend's bike (2012) did exactly the same thing to the same tyre at Jerez in Nov. Just wondering if it's peculiar to the BMW/Dunlop KR combination? The other lads were using Bridgestone and had no issues at all.

Bit of a head scratcher really, need a bit more track time to figure out what is going on.

The tearing just got worse each session, another 5/6 sessions and the profile was completely shot.

Tyre Wear

One of my rear slicks looked a little like that after a few sessions at Portim?o. My suspension setup wasn't the issue following a lengthy discussion with the specialist trackside. Instead the cause was attributed to being far to aggressive with the throttle from the apex (supported by data) and was compounded by the abrasive surface. As soon as I started to apply the throttle more progressively, what appeared on first inspection as a tear, cleared up and my lap times dropped.

I suspect that could be part of it, I'm not used to riding an IL4 and I can be pretty aggressive with the throttle. I thought the TCS would have helped a little with that though? Was in Slick most of the time.

Re: Ground Clearance

+1. I've not experienced any issues with ground clearance to date.

Maybe set up too soft? Ended up with 3 turns of preload front & rear and could have gone stiffer still on the front, lots of weight transfer and movement from the rear under heavy braking.
Lots to think about.....not sure when I'll be back on track but might book a day somewhere to potter round and fiddle.

Tyre Wear

All the DTC is doing is controlling the amount of tyre slip upon application of the throttle. The higher the setting, the greater the level of intervention in terms of the amount of time that the rear tyre is allowed to spin up before power is electronically cut. It will have an impact on tyre wear particularly if your sliding the rear or getting it to spin up, but overly aggressive throttle application will also impact upon tyre degradation. I found being more progressive with the throttle actually allowed me to apply it earlier in the corner resulting in a much faster exit and conserved the tyre more.

In my opinion the profile looks sweet from that angle, and that tear is nothing. You will never clear up a tyre completely.

My tyres looked like that on my ZX10 at donington, and the tyre man told me 18psi cold and no more then 30psi hot with the Dunlops (rear) when I went to Aragon + stiffen up the rear suspension and it just about lasted 3 days
